Goals/Objectives

Here are some of my initial thoughts about goals and objectives for our class:

1. Class Goals:

a. To define and illustrate the virtues listed in 2 Peter 1 and the other New Testament “virtue lists,” especially those virtues of greatest importance in the Bible.

b. To judge the nature and significance of the relationship between our Christian virtues and the virtues of our God (especially as revealed in Christ).

c. To learn how to best practice the virtues so that our thoughts, emotions, and actions are best ordered toward the fulfillment of God’s purpose for us.

2. Class Objectives:

a. To memorize the virtues listed in 2 Peter 1, Matthew 5, and Galatians 5, as well as the identity of the “Theological,” “Cardinal,” and “Capital” virtues.

b. To memorize brief definitions and exemplary instances of the virtues studied in class.

c. To memorize the Biblical passages and principles connecting human and divine virtue.

e. To maintain and affirm that we are a virtuous people of God, demonstrating this through reverence toward the Scriptures and respect for our fellow Christians.

d. To study the Scriptures to identify “good ideas” and “best practices” for cultivating and/or receiving the virtues in our lives.
